Photograph: A house just across mother’s ancestral house at Kralkhod. I was told Pandit Premnath Shastri used to live as tenant in this house owned by a Muslim.

Post migration, Pandit Premnath Shastri developed his Vijyeshwar Panchang not just like it was an almanac but like a document recording ancient religious practices and rites of Kashmiri Pandits. Today Vijyeshwar Panchang is one of the threads that hold the Pandits together.

I read that in his old age Pandit Premnath Shastri became an ardent admirer of Osho Rajneesh.

Ever year, Vijyeshwar Panchang would carry not only a year’s predictions for people born under various Zodic signs but also for the World, India and Kashmir. Skip the first few lines, no chance of getting the meaning, the last line reads:”Rest is up to God”. India was apparently born under a bad sign. Rest followed.
Sample this: This year the World will talk about ‘Nuclear’ a lot.

I love this cover.
They have changed the shlok written below Lord Krishna's picture!Never noticed it before.miss the older shlok:)
Vishnu Vishnu! 🙂
Yes, didn't that line use to be 'Yadha yadha hi dharmasya'
I've never seen any picture of Lord Vishnu wearing "Morpankh" in his mukut. So its got to be Lord Krishna.
I quick Google Image search will show up many.
i already did that before putting up the comment.not an extensive search though.just chkd wikipedia.its just that i find more reliable than other sites.dint find any picture of lord vishnu with morpankh and hence the comment.
And how often have you seem images of Krishna with four arms. 🙂

One of the name of Vishnu mentioned in 'Vishnu Sahasranama' –
shikhandee: He who wears a peacock feather.
The name invariably alludes to Vishnu in his Krishna avataar.

Vishnu image and a medical story
Yes i agree with u.Lord Krishna is never depicted having four arms.
If u go thru Lord Krishna and Vishnu’s iconography in wikipedia. It states that a strict iconography governs Lord Vishnu’s representation whether in pictures, icons or idols which mainly includes shankha, gada, chakra and lotus flower.Morpankh is mentioned under Lord Krishna’s iconograpy.
Morpankh is certainly associated with Krishna but not exclusively. Maybe it is a relatively recent iconography…
I just edited that wiki page for Vishnu and added the bit about peacock feather. Let's see if it sticks around of gets edited out. I do sometime contribute to Wikipedia 🙂

An interesting bit about a bunch of people in Chattisghar who sport Morpankh in their headgear and for Vishnu or Krishna or Ram.
Haa..We hadnt even finished discussing Lord Vishnu and Krishna donning morpankh…Ram ji bhi???…Thats India for u..:)
true!
Pt. Premnath Shastry moved to Jammu (Gol Gujral)and spent rest of his life there. Our family also lived there since and we were the only two KP families living there at that time. It was earlier known as Camp Gol Gujral becuase of the Sikh refugees from Poonch and Muzzafarabad. These days it has a sizable population of KPs including the Shri Ram (trika) Ashram (of Fateh Kadal). Pt. Premnath's son Pt. Omkarnath still lives there.
Felt like sharing..
