  1. Nice work …it's compact and still provides a lot of info about kashmiris that were nvr known to us…update it periodically

  2. Just finished talking to one my childhood chum who lives in New York now. I had just read your article and we only talked about ……. Back home there was ( or still is) a Kargi repair shop near our home ( Ali Kadal.) It was a treat to watch those master craftsmen weave magic with supple cane at lightning speed, always as per the base of the Kargi – Chrar Kangar, Bandipore Kangar etc. Never mind how bad shape Kargi was, it would as good as new within minutes once they started work on it.

Must be a dying art now with humidors and gas heaters making their way into Kashmiri homes now. God, you do put a man back on his memory lane. It really was worth fighting to get your blog exempted from my company's fire wall blocked list. Dinesh Labroo

  3. Thanks for your comment and for sharing your memories! And I am glad you won that battle against firewallers 🙂

I will try to show you the hard but skilled hands of the people who work on these crafts. A couple of years ago a younger cousin sister of mine traveled to Srinagar for her thesis paper on Willow Basketry of Kashmir. Will try to post extracts from that.
